“Racing for Education”
1990 Chevrolet Corvette
After the team’s Suzuki GSR-1000 was retired from racing in 2015, Sgt. Welch decided to make the switch to something with 4-tires & doors. He found this brown, tired, and worn-out C4 sitting behind the owner’s garage in Asheville, NC. Seeing potential, it did not take long to decide to grab a trailer and give this Corvette a new life.
The original L98 5.7l got a tear-down and refresh, and the car went on a pretty significant “diet.” A 6-point roll cage was installed, and the car was prepped for paint. After a couple weeks at Elite Auto Collision in Lawrenceville, Ga, it’s original brown paint was replaced with a fresh “hot rod” black paint. AKO Signs of Athens, GA provided the design and application of graphics for the car, and showed why they are one of the best in the business. After paint and graphics, it was ready for lights. Madden & Associates coordinated with Whelen Engineering to fit the car with a 36” Whelen Legacy LED light bar to complete the appearance package.
The engine package in this car has since been converted from the factory TPI to a traditional carburetor set-up, and it puts power to the track through it’s Mickey Thompson 29” slicks mounted on light-weight Vision aluminum wheels.
Please feel free to contact Sgt. Welch at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like the team to attend your event or visit your school.
